Illuminating the Transformative Power of Therapeutic Relationships

Teenager with Specific Language Disorder

N was 14 when I began working with him. His mother asked me to see him after she had become increasingly worried about the problems her son was experiencing at school and in his personal development because of difficulties he had with speech and language. N had been seen by NHS Speech and Language Therapists but had since been discharged and with little light been shed as to the underlying causes of Ns language difficulties. The prognosis though was grim and his future educational career was bleak.

Child autism spectrum disorder

G was 4 years old when her mum came to see me. G came with a possible diagnosis of autism. Her mother was desperate to get help for her daughter who she feared the system and services had already written off as beyond help or improvement. G was in a mainstream school and as a result of her challenging resistance, her place within the school was in jeopardy. Relations between school and mum were in on the verge of breakdown.

Dysphasic adult following stroke

K, aged 42, faced a pivotal moment when she suffered a stroke, holding a prominent position in a major finance company at the time. Despite the relatively minor residual effects of the stroke, the critical nature of her work, which heavily relied on language skills, posed a substantial threat. Even minor challenges could escalate into significant obstacles, jeopardising her job and demanding quick recovery.
